What a trip…!
Ever since o superman Laurie Anderson has always been a refuge for me. A place to rest and drift away from the normal.
4:48 Rabbit Symbol!!! Rabbit in MK Ultra means Abuser/Programmer!!! In Mind Control this is a signal for those under control that programming is upcoming!!!
I saw this performance at the Hollywood bowl. It was absolutely mesmerized by her. It’s been an indelible memory in my mind for decades.
… like the finest of wines…
2:38 the face that woman makes is pure gold
If I were an actor the biggest honor would be being directed by this great human of a man. King!
this is so relaxing to me, really sad nobody knows these underrated masterpieces of laurie.
i am nobody...nobody knows
"Can you see my heart....beat"
Halayna WAS sensational. She and the Japanese girl talking was the scene I remembered most.
I am enrapt by the lofty and rising echoes of the girls' voices. Dreamy.
I sense a cocaine problem
love it!😮
The Big Science album is full of 9/11 predictions. As is this performance.
Outstanding
"its almost... its almost like a dream." Ive seen him direct his sctots like this on every project hes ever filmed the behind the scenes of now lululul
A true internet gem . . .
Ms. Anderson's breakout hit O Superman was based on Operation Eagle Claw, the failed attempt in 1980 to rescue the Tehran hostages. The song is about the inability of technology to keep us safe and protected at all times. Since then, O Superman has been retconned to have prophesized September 11th. Something that adds to that, which has been pointed out here by others, is during "Home of the Brave" when the smoke rings on the big screen display the acronym "SOS" which then transitions to "911". To add a little more spookiness to it, Ms. Anderson's 1984 premiere release of her "Big Science" album featuring "O Superman" included on the back side cover a photograph of her standing outside the World Trade Center.
And the opening track of that album "From the Air"?
At the bottom of the Seine there is gold, Rusty boats, jewels, weapons. At the bottom of the Seine there are corpses. At the bottom of the Seine there are tears. At the bottom of the Seine there are flowers - Nourished on slime and mud. At the bottom of the Seine there are hearts That suffered too much to live. And then there are pebbles and grey creatures. The soul of sewers spewing poison. Rings tossed in by the misunderstood, Feet that a propeller has sliced from a body. And the cursed fruits of a sterile womb, The aborted foetuses that no one loved. The city’s vomit. All this rests at the bottom of the Seine. O merciful Seine, where cadavers end, O beds with linen made of slime, River of garbage without beacon or harbour - Singer who lulls the morgue and the bridges, Welcome the poor, welcome the women, Welcome the drunks, Welcome the insane. Mingle their sobs with the sound of your waves And carry their hearts, and carry their hearts, And carry their hearts along with the pebbles. At the bottom of the Seine there is gold, Rusty boats, jewels, weapons. At the bottom of the Seine there are corpses. At the bottom of the Seine there are tears.
When she's doing the dance, is the suit actually triggering the drum sounds or is the sound coming from somewhere else? I see a wire running out of one of her sleeves, but I can't tell if each movement matches up with each drum hit.
@4:36 is one of the most electrifying moments in the history of live music. I saw this tour at the Beacon Theater in NYC and I still can't stop thinking about it to this day.
"National Treasure", Laurie Anderson... 1986 y'all
Absolut zauberhaft.
Was this the photo of Sylvia holding the rose that was referenced in The Bell Jar, shortly before she had her breakdown?
Where is part 1???
911
Ì Grrrr
"Que es mas macho, school bus or a light bulb?" Has been my go-to expression ever since I saw the show live. Can't explain it, but it works!
This never gets old. This last 10 minutes is like fine wine, mixed with crazy sauce. Love it.
THE story about her father 😔😢😥similar to mine😟😥I feel her pain 😢
A TRUE LEGEND, LOVE FROM LONDON
I LOVE THIS! Every once in a while those last two words seep into my brain... white lily.
Reminds me of The Knife
The message is still relevant today more than ever... I wish I had seen it live.
❤
This was a brilliant concert movie. Laurie Anderson was Bjork level cool, innovative and talented way back then with the use of electronics and sampling. I must’ve watched Home Of The Brave a hundred times. This was my favourite track.
Laurie Anderson is one of my lifetime favorites. I saw her perform many times. It hit me at the end.. the 911 actually watching this on 9-11-23. The event hit her very deeply. After it happened, I want to see her in concert in Pittsburgh all excited to see what kind of wild things she had come up with and it was so deep and sad and low. I understood why, but I just wanted to sit there and cry.
Great Perfomance. I would also recommend interpretation of Welsh contralto singer Hilary Summers: ruclips.net/video/AkvfliA_VbA/видео.html&ab_channel=RobertGuiscard
Wow this is very inspiring for an upcoming filmmaker
Genius ❤
We treat our “Flowers” as any commodity which like all commodities wither and die too soon.
Turns out Pink Floyd’s real name is David Lynch
You’ve made my day/week/month!! I’ve been searching for this for what seems like ages! Do you remember the title of the collection it was from? I recall a piece from the same era about a woman pushing a pram into traffic…
